A mid-90s hockey artifact

This was the first game from Wayne Gretzky’s three-year signature deal with Time Warner Interactive (signed late 1994) - the one that led to Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey a couple of years later. It’s a genuine artifact of the era’s “players but not the league” licensing split: it carries the NHLPA license, so you get real player names, but the teams go by city only - no official NHL team names or logos - and you can even ice international squads (Canada, USA, Sweden, Russia and more). The Genesis version was built by Atari Games; GamePro called it “a terrific hockey game for both beginners and veterans.”
