Here’s the fun history: under the label this is a Western localization of the Japanese game Ozaki Naomichi no Super Masters - Sega swapped in golf legend Arnold Palmer’s name and face for the US market. It was part of a deliberate early-Genesis play of putting big-name stars on sports titles to sell the new console (Palmer’s golf, Tommy Lasorda’s baseball, Pat Riley’s basketball), and it worked well enough to earn a Sega Classics re-release. Collector bonus: it hides Sega Easter eggs - Opa-Opa from Fantasy Zone as the pause cursor, and Alex Kidd turning up during the tournament coffee breaks.
