Joe Montana II: Sports Talk Football (Genesis) - Authentic Sega Cartridge, Tested & Cleaned
The 16-bit football game widely credited as the first with real-time play-by-play voice commentary. Tested and cleaned, acceptable or better.
Your Genesis, calling the game in 1991
Authentic Sega Joe Montana II: Sports Talk Football for the Genesis - and the “Sports Talk” in the title is the whole point. Every copy gets powered on, verified to boot and play, and has its contacts cleaned before it ships.
A genuine 16-bit landmark
This is widely credited as the first football game with continuous, real-time play-by-play - not canned samples between snaps, but a digitized announcer (a roughly 250-word vocabulary) narrating field position, yards to go, and the score as you play. It was built by BlueSky Software, the studio behind Sega’s best sports games, and while the series never out-muscled Madden commercially, a Genesis that talked you through the action was legitimately ahead of its time - an early precedent for the live commentary every Madden leans on now. Label-reader heads-up: it’s not NFL-licensed, so teams go by city and Joe Montana is the namesake and announcer rather than a playable roster.
It sits in the middle of a trio, too: it followed the 8-bit Joe Montana Football on the Game Gear, and its Sports Talk voice tech carried forward into NFL Football ‘94 Starring Joe Montana - a fun set if you want the whole line.
Acceptable or better, and bundle-ready
Listed acceptable or better - cosmetic wear varies within that bucket, so the photo’s representative rather than the exact cart you’ll get. A solid add-on for a restored Genesis bundle; stack a few games onto a console and the savings add up.
