About
I’m an electrical engineer and a lifelong retro-gaming and electronics hobbyist. ConsoleArtisan is a one-person workshop: every item I sell is built or restored by hand on my bench, then bench-tested before it ships. Nothing is drop-shipped, rebadged, or sold untested.
Why I sell direct
I started ConsoleArtisan because good retro hardware is hard to find and easy to get burned on — overpriced relistings, untested “working - read description” gambles, and adapters with the wrong polarity or voltage that quietly kill the console they’re meant to power. I’d rather sell hardware I’d put in my own collection, at a fair price.
I also wanted to sell on my own terms, and the big marketplaces made that harder than it should be. I applied for API access to automate my listings and was denied with no real explanation. eBay also routinely sides with scammers over sellers — a risk I can’t keep shouldering on one-of-a-kind items — and at one point pulled one of my mod boards “for enabling copyright infringement,” when all it actually does is make the video output sharper. My appeal went unanswered.
Running my own store puts that control back in my hands, so I can stand behind what I make, price it fairly without the marketplace overhead baked in, and give you the service I’d want myself. The trade-off is real: I give up a built-in audience and a lot of discoverability. So if you like what I build, the best thing you can do is tell a friend — word of mouth is what keeps a small shop like this alive.
How I work
I design, repair, and test everything myself. Power adapters are built to the correct voltage, current, and polarity for the specific console and verified under load. Console repairs and recaps are done with proper tools and the right parts, then run and checked before they go out. Consoles — and especially controllers — get tested by actually playing them, because a spec sheet won’t catch a mushy button or a drifting stick; I won’t ship anything I wouldn’t happily game on myself. If something isn’t right, it doesn’t ship.

Guarantee
Every item is guaranteed working on arrival and in the condition described. If it shows up dead or not as described, I’ll make it right. I’m also happy to answer questions before or after a sale, including whether a given adapter or repair is right for your setup.
