The series that got there first
Here’s the pedigree: the original R.B.I. Baseball (NES, 1988) was the first console baseball game to carry the MLBPA players’-union license - real MLB player names, though teams went by city (no MLB team license). The whole line traces back to Namco’s Family Stadium, brought west by Atari Games/Tengen. This ‘94 edition packs ~800 real players with their 1993 stats, a full 162-game season, playoffs, a Home Run Derby, and Jack Buck on play-by-play. And the name never died: MLB itself revived R.B.I. Baseball as its own annual series from 2014 to 2020.
