Here’s the part everyone gets wrong. The Lion King’s reputation as a rage-quit machine - that giraffe-hopping “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” level, the stampede - is the SNES and Genesis versions. This 1994 Disney tie-in (published by Virgin, ported to the Game Gear by Syrox) was deliberately made easier: GamePro praised its “gentler difficulty slope,” and EGM called the graphics on par with the consoles with improved controls. So this is the friendlier, actually-finishable Simba - and it was the top-selling Game Gear game in the US the month it launched, December 1994.
