Japan’s favorite little girl
Chibi Maruko-chan is Momoko Sakura’s gentle, funny manga about a third-grader growing up in 1970s Shizuoka, and its anime has been a Sunday-evening institution on Fuji TV since January 1990. It is still on the air. One episode in October 1990 drew a 39.9% household rating, the highest for any TV anime since Video Research began its online measurements in 1977.
The last, and best, of Takara’s Game Boy Maruko games
Takara made five Chibi Maruko-chan games for the Game Boy between 1990 and 1995. Maruko Deluxe Gekijō (“Maruko Deluxe Theater”, May 1995) is the fifth and final, the only one with Super Game Boy support, and the best reviewed of the five. It is an adventure game.
About the Japanese
An adventure game based on a manga that lives on its dialogue, with no English version, so it is best for a Maruko fan who reads Japanese. On a Super Game Boy it gets a border and colors on the TV.
More Japanese kids’ TV on Game Boy: Crayon Shin-chan and Doraemon.
