This is the genuine article: an authentic Nintendo Tetris cartridge for the NES - the one you’re picturing, not a 100-in-1 repro with “Tetris” buried on the menu. Every copy gets powered on, verified to boot and play, and has its contacts cleaned before it goes anywhere.

I’m listing these acceptable or better, which is my honest floor: they show typical cosmetic wear - a scuff, a slightly worn label, the normal life of a 35-year-old cartridge - but they work, and the photo is representative of that bucket, so cosmetic details vary a little copy to copy. If a cart is pristine, or rough enough to mention, it gets its own separate listing instead of hiding in here.

The competition standard - and the ROM it’s all built on

This is the NES Tetris - the one the whole competitive scene runs on. The Classic Tetris World Championship is played on this game, and the training ROMs the top players grind with (TetrisGYM and the rest) are literally patches applied on top of this cartridge’s ROM - they hack the original, they don’t replace it. And if you want to actually run those patches on a real NES, that takes an SD flash cart - a stock cart can’t be reflashed. Its DNA reaches modern Tetris too: Tetris Effect: Connected’s Classic Score Attack mode was built to recreate this exact release - no hold, no hard drop, just singles through Tetrises, the way CTWC is played. And yes, there was famously another NES Tetris - Tengen’s unlicensed 1989 version - but a court injunction pulled it after four weeks (~268,000 carts recalled and destroyed), which makes this Nintendo release the canonical classic. That same game then became the Game Boy pack-in widely credited with driving the DMG to become the best-selling handheld of its generation.

The Cold War scramble over this game’s rights is a genuinely great story, and it’s been told well - worth a watch: Gaming Historian’s The Story of Tetris, and the 2023 Apple TV+ film Tetris (Taron Egerton as Henk Rogers), dramatizing the licensing fight between Nintendo, Atari/Tengen, and Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov.

Better as part of a bundle

Honestly? On its own this is just a Tetris cart, and eBay has a hundred of them. Where it earns its keep is stacked onto a restored NES - grab a console, add a game or three, and the bundle savings kick in. Puzzle fan? Its natural sibling is Dr. Mario - grab both iconic NES puzzle carts and let the bundle math do its thing. That’s the whole point of these add-on listings: build the setup you actually want and pay less than buying the pieces one at a time.
