Sega’s answer to Tetris - and the grandfather of match-3
A little history: Columns was Sega’s answer to Tetris. The original 1989 game came from Jay Geertsen, an HP engineer who built it as an X11 learning project before Sega bought the commercial rights. Sega leaned in hard - Columns was the first pack-in game for the Game Gear, its Tetris-and-Game-Boy parallel. It also turned out to be the ur-example of the match-three genre: the whole Bejeweled and Candy Crush dynasty traces back to these tumbling jewels. This 1995 Super edition is the expanded sequel, with new gem types, line rotation, and a story mode - the biggest version of it for the handheld.
