Flash Gear GG Pro+ - Game Gear / Master System / SG-1000 microSD Flash Cart
A microSD flash cart that plays the whole Game Gear, Master System and SG-1000 libraries on your Game Gear - a budget Everdrive alternative in a slick smoky shell.
One cartridge, three libraries
The Flash Gear GG Pro+ is a microSD flash cartridge for the Sega Game Gear that runs the Game Gear, Master System (SMS), and SG-1000 libraries off a single SD card. Drop your games on the card, pick from the menu, done. It’s a budget-friendly alternative to a Krikzz Everdrive GG that does the same core job for less - and it’s tested and working before it ships.
What you’re getting
- Plays GG + SMS + SG-1000 - the Game Gear’s own library plus the 8-bit Master System and SG-1000 catalogs, all region-free.
- microSD storage - load your own games, and the smoky semi-transparent shell looks genuinely great, showing off the board underneath.
- Built to last: gold-plated pins, low power draw (a little kinder to your six AAs), and FRAM storage that keeps your saves with no battery to die.
This is NOT a genuine Krikzz - and here’s why that matters
Krikzz makes the original this is modeled on, and I’m glad to send you his way if you’d rather have it:
- Closest equivalent, and the top of the Game Gear line: the genuine EverDrive-GG X7 (about $145).
What the genuine X7 gives you that this clone can’t:
- Save states and a polished in-game menu, plus instant loading.
- Official firmware, support, and a warranty through authorized sellers - versus this clone’s frozen firmware.
- The compatibility edge cases handled properly - the handful of EEPROM-save and video-mode-quirk titles that trip up budget carts.
So why buy mine? The genuine X7 is roughly three times this cart, and for the overwhelming majority of the Game Gear, Master System, and SG-1000 libraries this does the same core job - with the bonus that I test every unit so you skip the AliExpress gamble. (Or buy direct from krikzz.com - all respect to the person who built this whole ecosystem.)
Compatibility, laid out
It’s played effectively everything thrown at it - compatibility is excellent. But I’d rather give you the full picture than pretend it’s flawless, because GG flash carts as a category share a few well-documented quirks (these come from the Everdrive-GG world; a clone like this generally behaves the same):
- A few baseball games won’t boot. A small set of titles save via EEPROM, which GG flash carts don’t support - so those specific carts (a handful of baseball games) won’t load.
- Some games need a file-rename, not magic. A number of Game Gear games actually run in
the Master System’s video mode, and to load those you rename the ROM from
.ggto.sms(for example Castle of Illusion, Taito Chase H.Q., R.C. Grand Prix). Sounds fiddly; it’s a ten-second thing once you know. - A couple of oddballs glitch. Gunstar Heroes (GG), for one, is known to glitch and crash on flash carts.
- Bad dumps and PAL files misbehave - but that’s the ROM file’s fault, not the cart’s. Grab a good NTSC dump and you’re set.
Everything else - which is to say the overwhelming majority of the Game Gear, Master System and SG-1000 libraries - just works.
Load your own
Already play games on an emulator? Then you already have everything you need. A flash cart uses the exact same standard ROM files as an emulator like RetroArch - so if you’ve ever loaded a game on a phone, PC, or handheld, the files and the process are the same here. The only difference is you’re playing on the real Game Gear instead of a screen. No new software, no special format - drop your files on the microSD and go.
This is the hardware - it plays what you put on the microSD, and it ships with a blank card ready to go. New to flash carts and not sure where to start? Message me and I’ll walk you through it - formatting the card, working the menu, the huge free homebrew scene, and getting your own game backups running. I’d rather you actually enjoy the thing than stare at an empty menu. =)
And on that last point: making a personal backup of a game you own isn’t as hard as it’s made to sound - a $200 dumper is the fancy way, not the only way, and regular people do this at the kitchen table every day. Dump the carts you already own for personal, no-distribution use; I’ll leave the exact how to you, but ask and I’m happy to point you at the beginner-friendly path.
A great bundle companion
Setting someone up with a Game Gear? This is the “and everything else” piece: pair a restored console with one real game and this cart, and they’ve got a proper handheld plus the whole library at their fingertips. Got a Genesis too? There’s a matching Genesis / Mega Drive flash cart for the big Sega.
