Power Pros, in your pocket
In Japan, Konami’s Jikkyō Powerful Pro Yakyū (“Power Pros”) is the baseball series, running since 1994 and still going as Powerful Pro Baseball. Its big draw is Success mode: a story, half dating sim and half training montage, where you raise a player from nobody into a pro. Pawapoke was the handheld sister series, and this March 2000 cart is its second game, the last on Game Boy before it moved to the GBA and DS.
Where Pawapoke became its own series
The first Pawapoke was tied to a story from the N64 Power Pros. This one broke away: an original pro team and its own continuity that ran through the rest of the series, plus its first hidden bonus story. Konami remade its scenarios on Switch in 2021 as Pawapoke R, which Famitsu called the series’ first new entry in ten years, so this cart is the original of a game Konami still sells. You could even carry a created player over to the N64 Power Pros 2000 by password or with the Transfer Pak.
About the Japanese
The baseball itself you can play by menus; Success mode is essentially a visual novel and wants Japanese. It is a black dual-mode cart, so it plays on an original Game Boy too. The battery save is tested and replaced below 3.0 V.
